MADE x Manchester Communication Academy

Manchester Communication Academy have been part of MADE’s Creative Leadership Programme which has seen two of their students take part in a 7 month programme visiting different cultural venues across Manchester. As part of the programme, each student pair is responsible for spending a micro-grant on a cultural learning activity for their school.

Students from Manchester Communication Academy invited Beth Stephenson who works in the art department on TV to do a careers talk and teach students how to make prop biscuits! Beth has worked for CBeebies and other TV productions, and spent time explaining her jobs, and how you can make anything out of recycling and simple household items.

She taught over 60 fine art and textile students how to make a digestive biscuit out of Styrofoam, Mod Podge and acrylic paint. The students invited Beth to lead these sessions to expand their peers’ understanding of what different careers can look like in the creative industry. They also wanted to show how simple and creative you can be with the most basic things you can make in your house!

Quotes from some of the Year 10 students that took part in the day can be read below!

“This was a fun experience and has taught me on how you can make something from something very simple and it also is a very great prank to play on someone.”

“I love on how we got to learn about people who make props because they are very critical thinks but also think very outside the box as well.”
